iPhone Companion

Across the room. On your phone.

flexMeter Companion is a free App Store app that pairs with a Pro-licensed Mac running flexMeter 1.9 or later. Connect over the local network via WebSocket, pair with a QR scan, and the meter travels wherever you do.

Free download Requires Pro on Mac iOS 17+ Keychain-stored credentials

What's inside

Six things the Companion does for you.

Live Status, 10 Hz

Tally indicator, stereo level bars (L/R + mono sum), LUFS M/S/I, the last incoming cue, and an Air Log session timer. WebSocket v3 push stream — no polling.

Cue pad — producer to host

Default presets: WRAP UP, ON AIR, BREAK, STAND BY, GOOD TAKE, ROLL. Tap to push styled text to the Mac's Text Strip in real time. Labels sync via iCloud key-value store.

Tally Light Mode

The entire iPhone screen fills with the Mac's active tally color — red, green, amber, or any hex. Steady, blink, or pulse. A physical on-air light without dedicated hardware.

Live Activities + Dynamic Island

When the Mac goes on-air, the Companion starts a Live Activity. Dynamic Island compact view shows the tally dot and elapsed time; expanded adds LUFS M and I.

Lock Screen + Home Screen widgets

Three WidgetKit sizes show tally state, peak level, LUFS, and session status. Data is pushed from the Mac via WebSocket and written to a shared App Group.

Multiple Macs, one app

Pair as many Macs as you like. Each connection's credentials live in iOS Keychain. Switch the active Mac from the Companion settings.

Pairing

Scan once. Connect every time.

No IP, no port, no token to type. Credentials live in iOS Keychain and survive reinstall.

  1. 01

    Install the Companion

flexMeter Companion is a free download from the App Store. Requires iOS 17+.

  2. 02

    Open the Mac pair sheet

On a Pro-licensed Mac: Settings → Modules → Tally Connections → WebSocket API. Tap the QR icon next to the status row.

  3. 03

    Scan the code

The QR encodes a flexmeter-pair:// URL with host, port, and per-machine Keychain token. Scan from the Companion pair screen — it populates everything automatically.

Free on iPhone. Pro on the Mac.

The Companion is always free. To pair, the Mac needs a flexMeter Pro license — that's the gate.
